Ancient Aqsa

This is a linear building stretching from north to south that can be found beneath the Qibli Masjid. It can be accessed via an old staircase located in front of the Qibli Masjid’s exterior corridor. It originally served as a passage for the Umayyad Caliphs connecting their passages to Al Aqsa, as the palaces were built next to its southern wall. It was restored and re-opened by the Al Aqsa Committee for the Reconstruction of Holy Sites in 1419AH/1998CE. Today, the building also houses the Masjid library, called “Al Khutniyah”.
